Sports Injury Care

Being active means potential injuries and accidents. Chiropractic care offers a holistic approach for athletes in order to reduce pain and symptoms, increase range of motion and overall sports performance so that you can stay active longer. Non-invasive, medication-free treatments include spinal adjustments, lifestyle advice, trigger point release and specific exercises and stretches for athletes.

Dr. Llaird Likens specializes in applied kinesiology and can help you recover correctly from a sports injury. He is also the team chiropractor for the Pensacola Pelicans and the Pensacola Ice Pilots so he has probably seen something similar to what you’re going through. He can help you realign your spine and restore your range of motion after a sports injury. In addition, Dr. Likens can provide treatment that will help you improve your overall athletic performance.

Treating Sports Injuries

It’s not just an accident or fall during sports activities that can get your spine out of whack. Your spine can also be misaligned from slow, repetitive movements. Realigning your spine can bring you immediate relief as your body is in its natural position and can heal.

In contrast, allowing your sports injury to go untreated can lead to worsening symptoms and significant complications later in life. Injuries and the resulting pressure on nerves, muscles and tissues can compound over time. Dr. Likens has been treating athletes for 18 years and can help you get back to your active lifestyle with non-invasive therapies and without the need for medication.

Sports-Related Injuries

Here are some of the more common sports-related conditions treated at our office.

Shin Splints: If you’re a runner or play tennis, soccer or basketball, you’re probably familiar with shin splints since your chosen sport requires frequent stop and start motions. If you have chronic pain from shin splints, you’ll likely receive treatment to the ankles, calves and feet.

Knee Injuries: Runner’s knee creates painful symptoms all around the knee, knee cap and sides of the knee. Often the culprit is a misaligned hip and spine. Dr. Llaird Likens will examine and make the appropriate adjustments to ease the stress on the joints, which will decrease pain and inflammation, allowing your knee and surrounding tissues to heal.

Sprains and Strains: Most athletes run into a strain or sprain at some point during their active lifestyle. Sprains and strains occur when a muscle, tendon or ligament is torn. Ouch! Dr. Llaird Likens has many treatments available for this injury, including massage which increases proper blood flow and reduces inflammation.

Dislocations: Football and hockey athletes are typically most likely to see a dislocation as a sports injury. Treatment for dislocations include a combination of ultrasound, laser therapy, hold/cold compress and electrotherapy. Using these non-invasive therapies, you’ll slowly be able to increase activity and range of motion in order to regain strength in the affected area.

If you are experiencing pain or loss of mobility from a sports injury and you live in Gulf Breeze, Navarre, Midway or Mary Esther Dr. Llaird Likens is ready and available to schedule an appointment for you. He’s been treating sports injuries for more than 20 years and looks forward to the opportunity to help you feel better.
